The States Where Jobs Are Disappearing and Where They’re Moving to Instead

Missouri had enough job growth to keep its market moving. New work can come from health care, logistics, manufacturing, agriculture, finance, tourism, and the major business centers around St. Louis, Kansas City, Springfield, and Columbia.

But job losses still came out ahead. Some companies may close locations, cut staff, or slow hiring when costs rise or demand drops. Rural areas can also have a harder time replacing lost jobs. Missouri was active, but the losses had a modest edge.
