#8: New York
Jobs Gained: 5.9%
Jobs Lost: 5.8%
New York was almost perfectly balanced, but job gains still came out slightly ahead. New jobs can come from finance, health care, education, tourism, restaurants, media, real estate, and business services, especially in and around New York City.

But jobs are also leaving or disappearing because the state is expensive to operate in. High rents, high wages, office cutbacks, remote work changes, and pressure on small businesses can all lead to job losses. New York still creates plenty of work, but it also has plenty of churn.
